NEUTRON / White + dark blue pattern

For the collaboration with chocolatier Elisabeth, I developed a new body of work titled NEUTRON. The name refers to science and antimatter — a subtle nod to my ceramic label — while the forms themselves feel more grounded. They are inspired by the historic cities and architecture of Bruges, where I was born, and Ghent, where I live and work.
 
The series incorporates recognizable architectural elements such as stepped gables and refined window frames, typical of the neo-Gothic style that characterizes these cities. This architectural language also resonates with other historic cities where Elisabeth is present, including Brussels, Antwerp, and Paris.
 
For this collaboration, my ceramic masks were given an unexpected translation into chocolate. My visual language and Elisabeth’s culinary craftsmanship come together in a fully edible creation, positioned at the intersection of design and patisserie.
 
Within the NEUTRON collection, I created one work released as a limited edition of 83 pieces, a reference to my birth year, 1983, in Bruges. This piece is made of porcelain and finished in the characteristic Delft blue color palette. Both are deliberate references to the golden age of ceramics in the 16th and 17th centuries. The work bridges an age-old craft with a contemporary form and context.
 
Each piece is accompanied by a hand-signed certificate of authenticity, presented in packaging that reinforces the work and its concept.

The origins of a mask can be traced back thousands of years. Often surrounded by rituals or social gatherings. What do I show to the world, or better to the people around me? Do I show my most inner self or do I hide behind a ‘mask’?
