Bye Bye CARL / burgundy +black & white

Meet Carl. This series was the start of Antimaterie back in 2020, my first baby steps in making ceramic artworks with slip casting.
 
Lately I’ve been working on a lot of new shapes and forms, so it feels like time to say goodbye to Carl and make way for new characters in my ceramic world.
 
This will be the last series featuring Carl: four variations of carefully selected colors and techniques, nine duos each, so 36 duos in total.
 
Like every piece that passes through my hands, each one is entirely handmade in my atelier in Ghent. The hand-drawn crayon lines, etched patterns and glazes differ slightly from piece to piece, giving every artwork its own subtle uniqueness.
 
Edition of /9 + 3 AP. This edition consists of two pieces: the burgundy and the black & white. Each piece is signed and numbered on the back, and every duo comes with a hand-drawn certificate of authenticity. The artist proofs are not part of this drop.

The origins of the mask can be traced back thousands of years, often surrounded by rituals or social gatherings. What do I show to the world, or rather, to the people around me? Do I show my innermost self, or do I hide behind a ‘mask’?
